Delay in Mcsoft Inc Listings

McSoft Inc, the super corporation formed by the recent merger of McDonalds and Microsoft, was hoping to get a listing on the New York Stock Exchange early this week.

Speculation was rife among brokers who had eagerly awaited McSoftInc's debut on the Dow Jones index. Some wondered if the merger had become unravelled at the last minute. The explanation is much more prosaic than that.

A vulnerability was found in Windows Vista which needs fixing before the official submission of the company to the Wall Street authorites. Microsoft engineers are working round the clock and the patch should be ready sometime before April 2009.

Today at 12:00 EST, Bill Gates and Ray Kroc signed the final contractual papers that herald the start of a new era in Corporate America.

Although McDonalds and Microsoft will continue to operate under their present names the parent company will be McSoft Inc, based in Seattle.

Will the McJob become the McSoft job?

For the last 4 years McDonalds have been in a running battle with dictionaries (for example, Merriam-Webster Collegiate) over the word "McJob" which is defined as

"low-paying and dead-end work".

The powers-that-be at the fast food monolith feel they are being unfairly treated.

Boo hoo! If you don't like the game, pack up and go home.

Of course, the film "Supersize Me" and the notorious McLibel case in the UK (which went all the way to the European Court of Human rights) have done nothing to make the Company of the Golden Arches universally popular.

In fact, one of the few companies I can think of that is more unpopular than McDonalds is Microsoft. Personally, I was less than enamoured when that virus called Internet Explorer 7 wiped out my computer's directory.

And now we are waiting for Computer Armageddon.

Yes, Windows Vista is coming, ready or not.

Actually, I'm quite sad about this merger between McDonalds and Microsoft. Instead of two companies to hate, from Sunday there will only be one.

Rumour has it that, after 3 years of secret talks, the biggest merger in American corporate history will take place this weekend.

It seemed that, after the acquisition mania of the 90s, companies had realised the danger of diversifying away from their core business. For example, although Pepsico are bigger than Coca Cola it is the Atlanta company which is more profitable because all their focus is on their soft drinks business while their main competitor has a finger in too many different pies.

So, this leaves us with the following question.

What are the benefits of this merger for McDonalds and Microsoft?

For one thing, look at all the brand equity they are going to lose.

McSoft Inc? Please! What kind of name is that?

Okay, they will be able to rationalise things like accounting, HR, and distribution
but do Big Macs and Vista really go together?
